I’m joining
Sinclair Sexsmith’s virtual tour for her new anthology Say Please: Lesbian BDSM Erotica for two reasons. First,
because Sinclair ROCKS and second, because I have a story in this amazing book. So, before I get involved in telling
you about my story, I thought I’d tell you how happy I was to have a story
chosen for Say Please and how much fun it’s been listening to some of my fellow
authors read their stories aloud.
(I got to read mine, too, because you know, I’m a reading whore…)
I have to say,
if you’ve never attended a reading, you should go. Regardless how much you enjoyed reading an authors work to
yourself, it is that much more exciting to hear the author read her own
words. Chances are, you’ll come
away with a much more nuanced understanding of the story.
But I said I was
going to talk about my story, “A Public Spectacle.”
Pretty much
everything I write has at least a kernel of truth. Sometimes that truth is that the building where the action
takes place really does exist; sometimes that truth is that the girl in the
story is someone I actually know and something very similar happened to her in
real life and sometimes that girl is actually me – in some alternate universe –
sort of.
“A Public
Spectacle” comes from an actual scene I witnessed. No, I wasn’t the top, and, god no, I wasn’t the bottom,
either. Like I said, I just
witnessed the scene. I was at a
public play space and there was something about it that drew me, that made me
want to witness and made me remember it and want to write about it.
The top wasn’t
the most amazing top I’d ever seen and the bottom wasn’t little miss sexy-pants,
either, but there was something about their play that was so genuine and
transforming. And, yes, the bottom
was indeed transformed through her submission and became truly beautiful.
I think that
often happens in play, even when you aren’t consciously thinking of ritual and
spirituality. In fact, I almost
never think of ritual and spirituality (please don’t think less of me – it’s
just who I am) but, when things are going really well, the feeling often shifts
to something transcending. Maybe
it’s just soaring on endorphins for both top and bottom, and maybe it’s more. I’m not the type to contemplate those
things, as a rule. But I suppose I
did contemplate them when I wrote this story. Writing the story, as well as viewing the scene, sort of put
me in a trance. If you’ve heard me
read it, I even read it with a trance-like quality, which is very unusual for
me. I don’t know if I was
successful in bringing the feeling to the page; I’ll have to let you be the
judge. But please do read it and
judge for yourself. Let me know,
if you’ve a mind to. I’d love to
hear from you, either way. But,
whatever you do, treat yourself to this book. It’ll definitely keep you up, if you know what I mean.

Description:
Say the magic word and fulfill your deepest desires for
discipline and surrender, domination and submission, and the heightened
sensations of BDSM play. One request opens up a fantasy world of classic
dungeon scenes, bondage and restraint, floggers and spankings, sadism and
masochism, very hot sex and so much more. True to form, Sexsmith queers classic
gender dynamics, with a femme daddy in Alysia Angel’s “Feathers Have Weight,”
and genderqueer bois who earn their right to flag black in Sassafras Lowrey’s
“Black Hanky.” In “The Cruelest Kind,” Kiki DeLovely’s naughty narrator gets
her just desserts from her butch in a back alley. D.L. King’s top makes her
submissive strip before an unseen audience in “A Public Spectacle.” Face
slapping can be a hard limit or the most delicious craving, as Rachel Kramer
Bussel’s protagonist finds out in “A Slap in the Face.” Whether you dream of
surrendering to a lover or of weilding your power, Say Please to the
erotic inspiration within.
