Reading at Sh! in London

Yes, I know, this actually happened last month -- actually almost a full month ago, but I keep telling you I'm a crappy blogger.  It's taking me a while to get all the pictures sorted and these aren't the best ones of the readers floating around out there, but I did really want to get them up here so the three of you who read this blog could see them!  So, here we are, fresh from reading at the Sh! Women's Store in Hoxton Square.

From left to right are Jacqueline Brocker, Jacqueline Applebee, K D Grace, moi, Janine Ashbless and N J Streitberger.  This is our staid pose with the Sh! wall of toys as an apt backdrop.  Yes, that is one of the signature Sh! girls' glasses of pink bubbly in my hand.  I must say, they kept that glass well-filled! (Thank you, Joanna!)  You might notice that Remittance Girl is conspicuously absent.  We started taking pictures before realizing she'd ducked outside for a quick one (not going to say quick what, though).

And here she is now!  Yes, we are holding, or brandishing (depending on your point of view) cocks.  Well, it is a sex shop, after all.  N J, as the lone male in the picture, got to lovingly hold a velour vulva.

This was such a wonderful evening.  We had quite a crowd but still, I wish you could have all been there -- all three of you.
Reader not pictured: Ciara Finn

And by the way, I was so late getting there.  I'd spent the entire day at the Tower of London.

What an amazing museum.  Here was our Beefeater guide.

I spent all sorts of time wandering.  I saw the crown jewels and spent the majority of the time in the armory.  I'll post all my tower pictures on facebook soon (I promise).  I spent so much time in the armory that I didn't even have time to see the bloody tower at all!  Yes, that's the place I really, really wanted to see and I didn't get to.  It's just that the armor was so amazing, I couldn't drag myself away.  Then I looked at the time and realized I had to run back to the hotel to change for the reading!  (Next visit for the Bloody Tower!)

So, I got back to the hotel, changed and primped and went downstairs to ask about a cab.  It was rush hour and the cab company said it would take 45 minutes to get there, which was exactly how long I had before the scheduled start, so I hopped back on the tube.  I didn't check the address again and got off at the wrong stop, ten minutes before the reading was to begin.  I asked a cop where the address was and he'd never heard of it (can you imagine?) so I grabbed a cab and told him where I wanted to go.  I was a ways away, as you might imagine.  He got me there about ten minutes late, but most everyone was late.  Evidently the traffic was really bad.  Yay!  So, after I stopped sweating and got rehydrated, and everyone else arrived, we had the best reading ever.  I can't wait to do it again!

Thanks Sh! Girlz.

Hey, I have a hot fem dom story in this book, Ageless Erotica, edited by Joan Price.  Here's a copy of her latest blog about the upcoming release.  Don't you just lurve the cover?

Ageless Erotica coming soon!

I'm thrilled to announce that Ageless Erotica will come out at the end of February 2013 from Seal Press! In this groundbreaking anthology, 29 writers age 50+ write steamy erotica featuring sexy characters who are also age 50+.

This is not your usual erotica with a few wrinkles slapped on -- these are stories that show how hot sex can be at our age. This collection embraces the agelessness of sexuality while still realistically acknowledging the changes that accompany aging.

Some selections are tender and loving, while others are edgy and kinky. But whether characters are going solo, having spicy sex with partners they love and have loved for decades, or engaging in casual encounters, every story included in these pages aims to arouse and to rejoice in the sensual side of aging.

Ageless Erotica is a stimulating celebration of the many pleasures of “well-seasoned” sex.

Blackpool!

Yes, I know, I've been back for a week now and I'm just getting to blogging about my trip to Britain.  But I've told you on many occasions that I'm a crap blogger so it's your own fault if you were thinking you'd get this sooner. (Yes, when all else fails, blame the viewer...)

I went to work on Monday, the 19th and left for the airport that evening.   Got to London at 8 in the morning, took the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station, then the tube to Euston Station to wait for my train to Blackpool.  I arrived around threeish in the afternoon and grabbed a cab to my hotel.  This is a picture of Blackpool outside my window!

I love Blackpool.  I love the rock and the fish and chips and the beach, but mostly I love getting to see Ashley Lister and his family.  We've been friends for years but I don't get across the pond very often to visit.  This time I ate the best fish and chips ever at Harry Ramsden's. I wandered around with the two Ashleys.  I spoke about editing and publishing to a class of creative writing students at Blackpool and Fylde College.  I bought lots of Blackpool rock and I had the privilege of reading at one of the coolest erotic readings ever at the #5 Cafe.  For better or worse, Ashley the younger recorded several of the readings and two of mine appear on You Tube.  You can watch me read an excerpt from my story "Whore" (One Night Only, edited by Violet Blue for Cleis Press) and my story "Hound and Hare" from my upcoming anthology, Under Her Thumb (Cleis Press).

You might also enjoy a reading of Ashley Lister's story, "Kiss and Make Up" from my anthology, The Sweetest Kiss (Cleis Press).  This one was read by Vicky Ellis.  Or perhaps Remittance Girl's "The Dark Garden" from Coming Together Presents Remittance Girl. There were more recordings made and if they are put up on You Tube, I'll include them here.

I'll tell you all about my trip to London and my cheap day return to Paris in the next installment.

Call for Submissions!

Slave Girls: Erotic Stories of Submission
Edited by D. L. King
To be published by Cleis Press
Deadline: January 15, 2013
Payment: $50 plus 2 copies of the anthology

D. L. King is looking for Master/Slave erotica that will turn her into a mass of quivering flesh.

Let me warn you: I’m a dominant woman.  It will take real work to make me go all gooey from stories of female submission, but you can do it.  I know you can do it because I’ve read fem sub stories that have really turned me on.

But to do that, they’ve got to be well written and smart.  The girl can’t be a doormat or a cipher; she’s got to be just as smart as the story.  And the dom can’t be an alpha male wannabe or clone; he’s got to be real; flaws and all.  He can be a sadist or he can be kind, but he’s got to care about his slave.  And don’t forget the girl; she’s got to know who she is and what she wants (or learn that in the course of the story) and go after it.  And what she gets has to be hot.  You know me; I’m going to need to feel her pain – and her pleasure.  Her need to submit or to serve has to turn me on as much as it does her master.  And, by the way, I’m going to need to feel his pleasure, too.

The majority of these stories will be male dominant/female submissive, but I won’t say no to a few female/female stories, as well.  The characters must connect but please remember that this is an anthology of erotica, not erotic romance.  I am not interested in stories of humiliation.  I am interested in stories of sex and pleasure and pain – and need.

Stories should be between 2,000 and 3,500 words, double-spaced, 12 pt Times New Roman. Please indent the first line of each paragraph one-half inch and do not include extra lines between paragraphs. No fancy fonts, no weird sizes, no bizarre formatting, no strange colors, please. Do not put a cover sheet on your story.

Send your story as a .doc (NOT a .docx. You can assure this by saving your story as a Word 97-2003 document.) attachment and include the title, pseudonym (if applicable) and your legal name and mailing address to slaveantho@gmail.com. The subject line should read: Submission: TITLE. Please include a professional bio of 50 words or less. Direct any questions to the same address. Original stories only. (If you are absolutely unable to send a .doc attachment, I will accept an rtf—but I won’t be happy about it.)

Back in the UK!

I'm heading off to the UK on Monday, November 19th for 10 days of book-type business.  Yep, it's all work all the time with me... Well, sometimes it seems that way. This trip is a sort of mini book tour for Seductress: Erotic Tales of Immortal Desire (here or here).

That's my latest anthology.  It's all about succubui, you know, she demons who steal your life force with their sexual wiles. Yeah, it's that good. Anyway, if you're in the London area or the Blackpool area, I do hope you'll join me for an event, or two. Here's my schedule:

Blackpool

An Evening of Erotic Fiction at  No. 5
5 Cedar Square
Thursday, November 22, 2012
6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Join Ashley Lister, Remittance Girl and me as we read from Spank! and The Sweetest Kiss. I'll probably read from Under Her Thumb because I'm really excited about that new little baby. People have asked if this is a family-friendly event. So--No... Aren't you glad?

There will also be an open mic period for those who wish to read their own erotica.

I'll be doing other things in Blackpool, as well, like speaking to a writing seminar, going to various pubs -- to drink, not to read, checking out the world's largest mirror ball, buying Blackpool Rock and drinking. Oh, did I mention that already? So, come to the reading and maybe I'll catch you on the Promenade.

London

Erotic Writers Meet
Le Pain Quotidien
70 Wardour Street, Soho
Saturday, November 24, 2012

We'll have a discussion about editing and publishing erotic fiction. This is a roundtable discussion, so please come and participate!

50 Shades of Seduction or How To Get What You Want
Sh! Women's Emporium
57 Hoxton Square (Corner of Hoxton Square and Coronet Street)
Tube: Old Street
Saturday, November 24, 2012
6:30 to 8:30?

Yes, I'll be rushing right over there from Soho!  We're going to be talking about new attractions to kinky sex and dipping your toes into BDSM. How do you seduce your partner into playing the games you want to play in bed, or elsewhere? This is a "Women Only" class and requires reservations.

D. L. King and Friends
Sh! Women's Emporium  (Same directions as above)
Wednesday, November 28th, 2012
6:30 p.m. to ?

This is the big blow out. Help me celebrate my last night in London. I've published 17 UK writers in my various anthologies; nine of them will be joining me at Sh! for the biggest reading they've ever hosted! Many of these people I haven't had the opportunity to meet, so I very excited. Who'll be there?

Janine Ashbless, Jacqueline Applebee, Jacqueline Brocker, Essemoh Teepee, Ciara Fin, K. D. Grace, Remittance Girl and NJ Streitberger and me. Possibly more, although we'll have to wait to see.

We'll be reading from Where the Girls Are, The Sweetest Kiss, Carnal Machines, Voyeur Eyes Only, Seductress and even from my super-secret, won't be released until April, Under Her Thumb!

Oh, and I'll be doing other things while in London, so it won't be all work all the time there, either. I'm going to check out Portobello Market (because I've never managed to be in town on the right day before), I'll be in search of frou frou drinks, I may even do the Eye, although I'm not sure about that and I do hope to get to Paris for a day.

So, if you see me sitting on a bench by the Thames, with my nose in a book, feel free to come over and ask me if it's making me wet. Chances are, it'll be raining and the answer will be yes.

And then I'll be off, back to New York at the crack of dawn on November 29th. Actually, it's more like the crack of afternoon, but why quibble?

November 6, 2012

At The Crucible This Weekend!

I will be at The Crucible, in Washington DC, this Saturday, November 10 signing and selling books.  If you're in the area and are a member of The Crucible, I do hope you'll come out and say hi.  I'll have copies of my newest anthology, Seductress: Erotic Tales of Immortal Desire.

Beth Wylde and I will be sharing a table again and I'm really looking forward to seeing her.  Plus, it'll be great to get out of New York for a bit.

Find out more about The Crucible here and about the Leather Fleamarket and Play Party here.

Seductress!

That's right, my newest anthology has been released!  Seductress: Erotic Tales of Immortal Desire is available in book stores and Amazon.

Here's the blurb from Amazon:

She's beautiful. She's enchanting. She's mysterious and unfathomable. She's your fondest dream and your worst nightmare. She's sweet and sublimely submissive. She's dark and fully in charge. She's flirty yet mysterious. She promises safety in her arms but there's danger in her eyes. One look, one scent, one taste, one sigh and you're rock hard or dripping wet. She's sex incarnate.

Succubi are sexual vampires, women who steal the life force from their victim, but what a way to go! Some say succubi visit their victims in dreams; others say they seduce them in the flesh. Whether your succubus is a shape shifter, has permanent bat wings or wears a mini skirt; whether her victims are taken unawares, follow her with glee or scream bloody murder as they come, these stories are hot. As hell.

And here's the table of contents

New Cover Revealed!

OK, so I don't want to steal the spotlight away from Seductress, but I just had to let you know that the cover for Under Her Thumb: Erotic Stories of Female Domination has been chosen.  It's up right now on Amazon.  (They're both available for pre-order.)

I love, love, love the amazeball cover.

Knowing me, most of you probably think I've got a bunch of fem dom anthologies out, but you would be wrong.  This is my first, and so I'm very excited about it.  Seriously, you want fem dom?  Trust me, you'll get fem dom.

Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until April.  Yep, the release date is the day before my birthday.  But that doesn't mean you can't show this gorgeous domme (I have short red hair, too, in case you were wondering...) some love and head on over to Amazon to like the book and agree with some tags!

April 9, 2013.  Mmm ... happy birthday to me!

Sports Erotica, Huh?

As I said earlier, my post is up today at the Girls Who Score website.  But I thought I'd post it here for all the lazy -- I mean -- people who don't have the time to go over there and have a look at it.

I’m not exactly Sporty Spice, but when I saw that Ily Goyanes was editing her first Cleis anthology, I had to write a story for her.  You see, I really like Ily; she writes smart non-fiction and clever fiction and she’s a great judge of character – and characters.  So, I sat down and thought about possible sports stories.

I’m not into team sports, seeing as how I was always the last chosen to play and people groaned audibly when their team got stuck with me.  I’m not a fan of boxing or wrestling.  I’m more into solo sports.  I’ve skied, I’ve practiced archery, I’ve done weight lifting, I’m a swimmer, but I suppose my greatest sport love has been scuba diving.

“Goddess in a Red and Blue Speedo” is, for all intents and purposes, a true story – well, more, or less, true.  It might be a bit racier than what actually happened, but that’s what fiction is about…  In any case, I hope you like the story.  And if you do, drop me a line and let me know.  I’d love to hear from you.  (Find me at D. L. King Erotica)  But, of course, in order for you to read my story, you’ll have to get the book.  Get it at your indie bookstore, or any good bookstore, or get Girls Who Score here.  Here’s a little excerpt to get you started.

Goddess in a Red and Blue Speedo

I had to take a later flight.  When I finally arrived, I checked into the hotel and left a message for George letting him know I was there.  The next morning, he called at six a.m. and told me to meet everyone downstairs for breakfast.  Our first dive was at eight o’clock.  When I got down to the restaurant, the first person I saw was Lorna.
“Hey, I’m so glad you’re here,” she said.  “I thought, maybe, you were going to miss the trip when you weren’t on the plane.”
My mouth was open but I couldn’t seem to make it work right.  Finally, I managed to get the word, meeting, out.  She gave me a quizzical look and a little frown before saying she was glad I made it.
God, what a loser!
There were seven of us, plus George and Lorna, on the boat.  The only people from my class were Carson and Blaine and again, I was the only single.  George told me he’d be my dive buddy.  I was a little disappointed that Lorna wasn’t going to be my buddy, but I figured, after the way I acted in the restaurant, why would she want to?  Once in the water, I forgot all about wishing Lorna was my dive buddy.  The beauty of the underwater world was all encompassing.  I didn’t want to come back up when George gave me the signal.  I still had almost half a tank of air.
Back on the boat, everyone was exhilarated, talking about all the things we’d seen.  George explained that different body types use different amounts of air and when the first person began to get low, we’d all surface.  We had lunch on the boat and traveled to the next site, diving about an hour after we’d surfaced from the first dive.  I went on two more dives the next day but opted out on the third day to go to the beach and sight see.
Tired from the sun, I got back to my room to take a nap and was awakened by the phone.  It was Lorna, telling me they’d booked a night dive and asking me if I’d like to go.  She said it was really special and even more beautiful than day-time dives.  I couldn’t say no and made plans to meet at the boat dock in a few hours.

Don't forget to go on over to the Girls Who Score website to see all the posts.  There's a new one every day, and in the mean time,  go out and get your own copy of Girls Who Score.  You know you want to.

Girls Who Score Blog Tour

I've said it before and I'll say it again:  I'm a very crappy blogger.  May?  May?  Really?  I haven't posted since May?  It's a wonder anyone reads this blog.  Hey, maybe no one does...  Anyway, I wanted to let you know that Ily Goyanes, the editor of Girls Who Score: Hot Lesbian Erotica, is hosting a blog tour, of sorts, at the Girls Who Score website.

Kiki De Lovely starts things off today and there are posts through the rest of the month.  Mine will go up on August 18th.  Check it out now and then come back to read about my story in Girls Who Score!

I haven't had a chance to see the book yet, but I'm pretty sure it's killer.  Just sayin'...

A World of Welcome

Say hi to Anna Watson, the author of "Bienvenido" in The Harder She Comes.

A World of Welcome by Anna Watson

Nigh on ten years ago now, when I finally came all the way out as femme, I had a fantasy about a debutant party. The party would be a ritual to welcome me into the world of femmes and butches and to honor my sexuality, long repressed and sadly neglected. It would be a joyous occasion for all the femmes and butches in the area, a time to reconfirm our connection to one another, to wallow luxuriously in our delicious, varied, layered, joyous and oh-so-persistent desire. I imagined it would be like an adult coming-of-age ceremony, a femme mitzvah, steeped in sex. There would be a lot of preparation, like shopping dates with more established femmes who would guide me through the mall, counseling me on makeup and hairstyle, keeping me company in the lead up to the big event. Butches, too, would be on hand for escorts and driving, and they would be doing their own preparations.

My butch beau and I had a ball filling in the details of this ceremony. Our tale-telling often led to acting out some of the juicier bits, and the whole thing was just a bunch of fun. There’s one part of my fictitious Femme Debut, though, that has stayed in my memory, something that points to the fact that this particular fantasy was more than a pretty story we were telling each other in bed.

The butler steps into the ballroom and rings a silver bell, once, twice, three times. The crowd stills, and looks expectantly his way. The femmes in all their finery smile at each other, glance in anticipation at the long staircase descending from the second floor, and move to the center of the room, remembering their own Debuts. They are dressed in high steam punk to high slut to high domme and in everything in-between, a riotous flock of color, perfume, cleavage, tattoos, hair dos and attitude. The butches, whether in full tuxedo or full leather, hurry into position, one butch to a stair, my own butch beau waiting for me at the bottom. The butler gives each butch a flower, and rings the bell again. The crowd is completely silent as I emerge from where I’ve been cloistered with my closest femme advisors and move towards the top of the staircase. The femmes kiss me and step aside as I begin to descend. At each step, I stop, and the butch there hands me a flower. “Welcome,” they say. “Welcome.”

That part would make me tear up, every time.

Saturday evening, my butch husband and I went on a date for his birthday (and yes, he’s the same guy as the above-mentioned butch beau – thank you, butch-femme.com personals!). Believe me when I tell you we don’t get out much, especially since he’s been in an MBA program this year, adding an extra exciting element to our already very busy lives (I don’t think I’ve mentioned that we also have 2 teenage sons, not something for the weak of heart!).

After a lovely dinner at a funky Chinese restaurant (East by Northeast in Cambridge http://exnecambridge.com/menu/ – pretentious and expects you to eat lots of spring peas with chopsticks, but it was damn tasty), we stopped in Davis Square to see if we could get into one of the films showing at the independent film festival. We ended up seeing a documentary, “We Are Legion – the Story of the Hacktivists” http://wearelegionthedocumentary.com/, a world we neither of us knew anything about (Four-chan? b-tards? Anonymous? Huh?) (Wait, we did know about LOL Cats…), and we were both completely fascinated with the story of nerds-turned-social-activists sort of by accident. One of my favorite parts was when one of the male nerds who was interviewed talked about the heady energy of meeting in person other nerds who had previously only interacted via the computer, saying something like, “It wasn’t just guys, like you might think – there were girls. A lot of hot girls came out! I’d say a whole lot of us got laid that day!”

We need each other. We need to be seen – our sexualities need to be seen -- by people who, at least on some level, understand us and get us. There is nothing like it in the world, especially for persecuted minorities. I love to think of the Anonymous nerds, finding fellowship and sexual pleasure with one another, and I loved the Butch/Femme Bashes I was able to get to back in the day, where OH MY FUCKING GOD THERE WE WERE!!! Even now that I’m an old married femme lady, I will never forget that deep and satisfying soul thump of a feeling.

As D.L. King says in her eloquent introduction to The Harder She Comes, we don’t all do femme/butch alike, and how boring if we did. We do, however, share something: a love of all the scrumptious ways butches and femmes get hot and nasty with each other, a basic need for our sexuality to be recognized, honored, and held on high. As much as the world around us has changed, as much as access to each other may have become easier for some of us, we still need to know that there are folks like us out there, cheering us on. We still need to feel in our cunts and dicks that this kind of sexuality is alive and right and quintessential and vibrant and shines its love light right into our souls. I see you. I love you. That’s why I wrote “Bienvenido” and that’s why this book is so damn wonderful.
